CHARITABLE AID BOARD
BANK REFUSES AN OVERDRAFT.
Mr. M. . Stevenson, Chairman of the Dunedin District Charitable Aid Board, is at present : in Wellington regarding a difficulty that has arisen in connection with the administration of tho Board's functions. Tho Board. has ; mado tho levies'. oil .the local bodies for the year as usual, but these are not yet returnable. It has been usual for tho Board 'to carry on for • thrco months with the assistance'of tho Bank; but on this occasion . the Bank has refused an overdraft, statirig that there is no legislative provision for'such an overdraft. The'cbrisequence is that, tho month's chcques havo _ become payable/but there'is no money availablo to meet them.' It was hoped that tho Government would. undSr tho circumstanccs, pay tho subsidy in advance, 'but' as there is no authorisation for tho .payment, that cannot very well be done.
