SPORTS CLUB FORMED.
MEETING LAST NIGHT. A well-attended meeting, convened by the Wellingtonßoxing ' Association was held in-Arinit's rooms last night, to consider, tho ddvisabl'oness of forming a sports club. Mr. R: M'Villy occupied tho chair. Tho chairman said- that tho matter had been brought up before," but there had air ways been a difficulty in securing a room. Tho 'Wellington' Boxing 'Association' would' do all it could, but moro than boxing would , be'dealt with. Offers of help had been received from various gentlemen, arid no doubt somethirig practical would eventuate. The secretary, . Mr. ,W. Coffey, read tho correspondence'regarding the use of rooms. ■ It was decided that a sports club 1 ho 'formed.'.' : , . ■ -- . ■ •Mr. C. H. Izard, M.P., said that lie hoped that,'the'number of sports, bodies to be affiliated 'Would not be'limited./ The club should bo 'pii'as broad a basis as possible. (Hear, Jiear.) XAs to the, building,'ho thought ;that a. new one should be erected. There should not .be/the: slightest difficulty in obtaining the necessary .funds. , ..- ' Mr. J. Doyle and Mr. E. W. Arnold, jun. ; , expressed ( similar • opinions. ; ' It was decided that those present should form themselves into a. general committeo to , make inquiries and set up a sub-com-mittee to'report to a future meeting.. .The,following were elected .to tho sub-com-mitteff:—Messrs. .'. O'Sullivan, J. Doyle, S. ■Robinson," ' Talbot, Armit, Salmon, W. B. Platts, Wilson, M'Villy. Manton, J. D. M'lntyre, Cohen, and.C. H. Izard, M.P. , A discussion arose as to. tho constitution .of the club, • and it was explained that it was proposed to'follow the lead of the New South Wales .Sports Club/ which includes the majority of. the athletic sports. Tho objects are as follow:—Tho promotion of, social intercourse "among' members, ; libraries of . sport, w'elfqro'"of ,to afford members all the usiial privileges, etc.', of a club, to pro,yide; and ; support; all branches of sport, to consider, discuss; dccido questions connected with "sport,.'.to promote, honourable practico, to • repress; mal'practicej jand to render voluntary aid to clubs or associations or to any 'members...'.' ~' , ...
