HUTT BOWLING AND TENNIS CLUB

■ ANNUAL REPORT. In his report, to 'be presented at tKe annual meeting of the Hutt Bowling and Tennis Club to-morrow'evening, the President (Mr Orton Stevens) says-the ordinary reyenuo of the club amounted ,to £292 lis. 6d., which is £12 6s! less than the amount received last year. The ordinary'''expenditure(£294 13s. 10d.) is £22 4s. 3d. less than the previous year. The assets, after making due allowance for depreciation of plant, show a surplus', of/ £385 13s. over liabilities.' During the past seison the qlub took' part in .44 arranged matches against other clubs, winning 23 and losing 21. The handsome trophy presented by the patron,- Mr. John Duthie, for competition between the Wanganui, Wellington, and Hutt Clubs, was won by the plub at the first annual competition, held on the Wellington Green on March 10 last. Play for this trophy is restricted to the three clubs mentioned, with all of which Mr. Duthie is associated. The next competition will be hold at Wanganui during the forthcoming season. The club has been regularly represented in the open competitions' for the Hill Pins and Edwin Feathers, and has been successful in winniug each. The Pins are still retained by the club. Tho following club competitions were., played during the season Club championship, won by J. Eddie. Junior singles, won by J. H. Wagg.

Tho Mason Ferns wero again the subject of kaon competition; they iro at present held by Messrs. Henry and Murphy. The com--.mittco desires to express satisfaction at tho interest iaken and the enthusiasm displayod by tho tennis players, which was manifest by the satisfactory. attendance right through, the season; In addition to playing several invitation matches, tlio following club competitions, all on the American systom, were carried to a successful issue:—Ladies' handicap singles—Sir. Calender's trophy, Miss M. Foster; ladios' handicap singles—club trophy, Miss A. Jackson. Gentlemen's handicap singles—Mr. Calleiider's trophy, >Mr. L. W. Hawkins; gentlemen's handicap singles—club trophy, Mr. G. W. Callender. Combined doubles—club trophies, Jlrs. J. H. Wagg and Mr. H. Marshall. The membership now stands at 157, viz.. 82 bowlers and 75 tennis players. The- resignations for the year numbered 32, and 31 new members were elected. Thanks aro due to the following gentlemenMr: John Dutliie, for sis pairs' of practice bowls; Mr. W. Callender, for tennis trophies: Mr. 0. Stcvons, for framed photographs; Mr. S. Strand, for removing the smaller pavilion; and to those members who presented garden seats and subscribed for the purchase of a table for the pavilion.
