BUTTER EXPORT TRADE.
CO-OPERATIVE MARKETING.' . (BT TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) New Plymouth, July 24. An important Conference was held at Hawera. last; night undor tho auspices of the National Dairy Association to consider the question of co-operativo marketing. Fifty delegates from various dairy companies wore present. The Press was not admitted, and delegates are reticent as to what took place, it is understood, howevor, that the delegates were unanimously in favour of the proposal, and that it has been left to tho executive of the Dairy Association to formulate a schemo which will probably bo largely Bupportod, but tho exact extent of the support is problematical, as, although tho delegates unanimously approved of the principle of co-operative marketing, they did not feel free to pledge tho companies to participate. Tho essential features of tho scheme are to provido for more thorough inspection over butter in the Old Country, and that tho companies should combino to treat with tho heads of various firms which handle export buttor. There is no suggestion that tho factories should attempt to control tho amount of butter going on tho London market. Several delegates to the Conference doubted whether such a course could bo pursued successfully, even if ' tho companies wished to attempt it, and it is not proposed to attempt to oust tho firms engaged in putting Now Zealand butter on tho English market.
