As lie was going away, he said, thoy commenced firing upon him with a revolver, whereupon ho drew a revolver ho was carrying himself, but which for some reason ho had not used when attacked, and returned tho firo as ho retreated to a neighbouring house. Tho shooting groatly alahncd tho residents in tho vicinity. After investigation the police doubt the man's story, and consider that tho holdingup was an hallucination, and that all'the shooting was done by himself. Other cases which bear tho stamp of genuincuoss have been reported, howovcr, in ono instance a man having been somewhat-badly knocked about on Britannia Heights. Tho numbor of police on night duty has been augmented,' and tho mora remote parts of tho city aro being patrolled.
