THE CITY HORSE.
There is one Wellington girl who has always avoided the open' compartment tram since an unfortunate day when, as'the car was drawn up-by.the Mercer Street stopping 1 place, a slowly-passing horse poked its nose iff by. the door - and deliberately sneezed at ber; According to an Australian ■ paper, a Melbourne girl recently .had an,even more unpleasant experience. A. pretty girl was standing in tho road_ waiting for her tram. She woro in her floating feather boa a largo bunch of artificial violets. Tho long ends of the boa waved enticingly under the nose of a .waiting, cab-horse. At last with a sudden snap that showed all his yellow teeth the hungry horse had them I—and tho coveted violets and their realistic green leaves' were . greedily scrunched. But only for a moment. -With ail air of much disgust, a disillusioned horse showly disgorged a mass 'of wet rags, green paint,'and gum—whilo a startled young woman hoarded a tram with ■a miserable bunch of mangled fcathors that had onco been a pretty boa.
