STRIKERS AND FINES.
SirTho following is a suggestion recently thought of in tho matter of non-payment of finos by strikers, and as a substitute for imprisonment for same: — , ' " 1. For first ofEonco: Any employer of any particular trade_ or calling knowingly employing a man in such trade who has been fined for striking in said trade until such fino has been paid to bo liabloto a penalty not exceeding ten pounds. : 2. For second offence: Any employer in the Dominion of . any trade or calling in which wages aro paid knowingly employing a man who has refused to pay a previous and n second strike fine to bo liable to a penalty of : •twenty pounds/: The names of all strikers who have not paid such fines tq bo 6ont to all employers' and employees 1 unions, and gazetted. Sufch a law'as this would bo tho moans of ridding .the colony of a lot of non-law-abiding wasters, as they would bo compelled to leave for frosh fields. It is put in above way because, for instance, a striker in tho baking trado uiay tako a job in some other calling and after a time strike again. As to paymentof fines by employers, they havo generally sufficient assets to work npon.-I- am, July 1.
