Mr. C. Palk, No-Liconso organiser, gave ail address at'the Town Hall on Wednesday night, but the attendance' was poor. The lecture, however ,_ proved a good one, and the speaker was assisted, by Miss Sussex, an elocutionist of no. mean order. At tho Druids' Hall on AVedncsday night the brethren .of the U.A.O.D. tendered lady frionds a. social. The hall had been specially prepared, and a large number of pleasureseekers attended. During tho evening vocal and instrumental items were rendered,: and a speech on Druidism'delivered by Mr. Noble, sen. - Mr. Arthur Mitchell has disposed of his property at Otaki to Messrs. Wide and Jamieson, of Wellington and Hutt respectively, at £33 per acre. Mr. Frank Best has sold his at £28 per aero. The members of tho Girls' Friendly Club at Manakau have .presented Mrs.. An appeal by tho speakers for assistance to 'help in Church extension matters resulted in £80 being collected •_ in tlio room—-a splendid amount for the size of the .congregation.
The trains leaving hero for I'almcrston on Wednesday wcro all held up in tho Gorge by tho numerous slips. Tho 6.30 ji.m., which was a very lengthy train, camo 'to a very sudden halt at tho first tunnel, but after a delay of some twenty minutes was able to crcep through tho Gorge. This train had tho excursionists on board who had journeyed to see the English v. Manawatu football match. ' Mr. Dolasso, of Mastcrton Road, has sold his farm of 70 acres to a Palmcrston farmer.
