LEEDS UNIVERSITY.
NEW BUILDINGS.. (BY TELEGRAPn—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (Rec. July 8, 11.18 p.m.) London, July 8. King Edward and Queen Alexandra opened the heiv University buildings at Leeds. Eighty, thousand school children witnessed the ceremony. . . King Edward, said he rejoiced that facilities for-the study ; of scientific and'agricultural subjects of commercial utility, were being so greatly increased. Leeds University was constituted by royal charter April 25, 1901. It grow out of the Yorkshire College, Leeds, which was merged in the university by the University of Leeds Act of the same year. The Yorkshire Collego was founded in 1874, and formed part of the Victoria University from 1887 to 1903. The School of Medicine'was established as an independent institution in 1830. The university provides teaching and grants degrees in arts, science, medicine, dental surgery, law, and commerce. Special instruction is given in civil, mechanical, electrical and mining engineering, analytical chemistry, cloth manufacture, dyeing, leather -manufacture, and agriculture. •
