The Conference of tho Commonwealth Labour party has decided to add to its platform, as a fighting plank, tho proposar that the federal constitution bo amended bo as to ensure that legislation for tho "new protection" (lately declared unconstitutional by tho High, Court) and for arbitration may bo effective. Seely (Under-Secretary for the Colonies) in reply to a question by Mr. ■ J. Devlin (Nationalist member for Belfast West) said that he believed that the Labour party in Australia supported the Harvester • Excise Act. He was unable to express an. opinion regarding the grounds'of their support, and had no information concerning the working of the Act prior to the -Federal High Court's docision. ,Ho added that Lord Crewe (Secrotary for the Colonies) was not in a position to issue a special report on tlicr subject. • ' V .
