ONSLOW BOROUGH COUNCIL.
CASHMERE ESTATE ROAD. The Onslow Borough Council mot last evening. Present. 1 . The . Mayor (Mr. -J. G.. Harkness), Councillors Lyurieberg, Watson, Aplin, and Fitzgorald. Tho engineer reported in regard to proposed alternative routes for a road through tho Cashmere Hills Estate. Ho stated .that regarding tho road first 'proposed,with grades of 1 in 9 and 1 in 9.5, these grades wcro umvorkablo for anything but very light traffic owing to tho length of run, 26 chains of 1 in 9 and 28 chains of 1 in 9.5, and there was no prospect of over easing theso grades in tho futuro. Ho recommended therefore that this proposal bo not flowed. Tho second route, which ho was informed could bo constructed on a grade of 1 in 12 or perhaps easier, was considerably longer than tho first, and tho road would also bo sidling construction, tho slope of. tho hillsides necessitating heavy formation. Ho would suggest that, tho width of formation from tho Hutt Road to whore tho road intersects tho boundary lino the socond time ho 26 feet, with no footpath. The road should bo completed within twelve months. The distance from Kaiwarra to Alexandra Road, Khandallah by this route was 2 miles 50 chains, and tho distance by tho CroftonKhandallah Road 2 miles 37 chains. Tho Council dccided, in accordanco with tho engineer's report, to approve of tho construction of tho second road. Accounts amounting, to £187 Is. 7d. were passed for payment. It was decided to place a light in. Lawrcnco Street and ono in William Street, also to instal two lights on tho Victoria track, in addition to the two provided for in tho estimates
