OLD AGE PENSIONS.

NEW SLIDING SCALE. A CURTAILMENT OF THE LAST ONE. BILL THROUGH COMMITTEE. (BY TELEGRAPH —TRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (Rec. July 3. 0.55 a.m.) London, July ?. In tho House of Commons tho Government's Old Ago Pensions Bill has passed through committee. Tho schedule embodying the sliding scale under tho income-limit is as follows:— Total Income Pension Income Per year. Per week. and Pension (Not exceeding) , per week.'' £ 21 (8 l-13s. per week) ss. 13s. 23 12s. 6d. (9s.)' 4s. : 13s. 26 ss. (10s.) 3s. 13s. 28 17s. Gd. (lis.)' 2s. 13s. . 29 10s. (11 9-265. Is. 12 l-3s. When tho income is above £29 10s, per year uo pension is granted.

If the above sliding scale is compared with that which appeared in Mouday/s issue, and which was cabled as bein" issued by tli<j Chancellor of tho Exchequer, the incidence will "bo found to be approximately the same except in the last line, where tho final shilling of pension is cut off at an income of over «£2O 10s. a year, instead of .£3l 10s. a year as in the scalo published on Monday. If the ",£29 10s." now cabled is correct, it represents a considerable curtailment in the final grade. The amounts appended (in shillings) to the cabled'figures are approximate.
