Early on Thursday, morning the Tyser linor Tomoana arrived in Auckland from London, via Commbnwealth ports.. She left' London on April 20, and very bad weather prevailed during the first portion of the voyage, particularly in tho longitude of the Capo of Good Hope. Tho wind occasionally dcvoloped hurricai;e vigour, and tho seas rose to a great hoight, but, although the ship was flung about a gocd doal, neither she nor her' crow suffered any ill-effects. Later on the storm changed round to the'eastward, culminating in-a series of blinding blizzards off Capo -Leomrin, which, completely obscured surroundings. The temperature was also very cold, and the situation generally proved trying in the extreme. The passage to Melbourno occupied 47 days, which is five or six days longer than tho ordinary trip. After discharging at Melbourno tho vessel proceeded on to Sydney, and from tho latter port 'came on to Auckland, experiencing ordinary weather on the passano. Captain T. B. Linklater is still in command, and has wit* ■him the following officers:—Chief, Mr. E. J. Moffat; second, Mr. Wobb; third, Mr. Wholpton; fourth, Mr.'Marshall. Mr. Lloyd is m charge of the engineering department. The Tomoana is cxpeotod to reach Wellington about July i. '
A NOVELTY. An interesting and pleasing innovation has hecn introduced on the Cunard liner Carmania. It consists of a boys' choir, numbering twenty, drawn ontirely from tlio vessel's crew. During a recent trip from New York to Liverpool the choir boys each day assembled in the saloon, and sang soyqral selections, much to the' enjoyment of passengers. The principal soloists were two lads who at one time wero mombcrs of well-known choirs of Liverpool. THE CORNWALL ARRIVES. Early yesterday morning the ' ( F-.-H.S. Tho Taieri, of tho Union Company's coal fleet, after taking a cargo of timber from the liuou River to Melbourne, is to go on to Newcastle to load coal for .New Zealand. Mr. Dodd, purser of the Maitai, has joined the-Moeraki in place Mr. Minnitt, who, it is said, has resigned from tho service. Mr. W. B. Cunninghauie is now 'purser of the Maitai.
