ROMNEY SHEEP.
THE ADVANCE OF THE BREED. The third annual report of the-Romney Breeders'. Association, which will bo held at Palmerston- North records with pleasure the continued advancement of the Association. . Tho balance at the bank was £129 : lis. 7d., and on fixed deposit £203, making a total of £332 lis: 7d. In the third year of its' existence'the Society had 157 flocks registered, besides other flocks,, which were before the Council, arid during the past 12 months eleven Southern breeders had availed themselves of an extension of time to join the) Association, and three others' flocks would shortly be inspected. The sub-com-mittee set up to report on the official tatto.oing, by the Association, of all sheep exported had found that it was at present impossible to provide for an inspector to be in each of the four principal ports, nor could one be found to travel from end to end of the Dominion when required. Therefore, tho mattor had. remained in. abeyance, but would probably bo dealt with under the larger question of inspection. Notice had been givon of intention to amend tho rule's regarding the transfer of sheep from a registered flock, and also to write off a percentage of culls from the ewe hoggets, as was dolio by tho Victorian Association. A special meeting would be held to consider this /question. Tho report concludes with sympathetic reference .-to the death of Mr. James Holmes, of a well-known breeder and judge of Romneys. Jlr. G. Wheeler is president of tho Association.
