MINERS EIGHT HOURS
SECOND READING DEBATE. A GOVERNMENT CONCESSION. REJECTION OF THE BILL MOVED. BY TELEGRAPH—PUEBS ASSOCIATION —COPTBIGHI (Rue. Juno 23, 10.25 p.m.) London, June 23. In the House of Commons the Home Secretary (Mr. Gladstone) moved the second reading of the Eight Hours in Mines Bill, He offered to postpone for five years (instead of eighteen mouths) the enforcement of an eight hours' day from bank to bank. Mr. J. F. Mason (Conservative member for Windsor) moved an amendment to tho effect that the Bill ho rejected.
Mr. A. Lyttelton (who was Secretary for the Colonics in tho last Unionist Government) contended that the miners were not unanimously in favour of the Bill.
: The Labour members energetically supported tho measure. Tho debate is riot concluded.
