DISTRICT, HOSPITAL BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Wellington District Hospital Board was held yesterday morning, thoro being present Messrs. J. P. Luke (chairman), 0. J. Crawford," F. T. •Moore, It. C. Kirk, and J. Smith.
Accounts amounting to £178-1 3s. 4d. were passed ;for payment.
: Otaki Hospital.—Tlio matron reported that during May, 14-patients had been-admitted, 11 discharged, and there were, at the end of the month, 9 male arid 3 female ,patients under treatment at' tho institution. Two patients died- at tho-hospital during the month, and six' operations under anaesthe'tics. Were performed. The hospital was reported to bo fulK ■ A donation of £22 l'3s, towards the funds of the institution had' been received, through Sir. T. King, from the Chineso residents of Otaki. Otaki Sanatorium.—The monthly report of the Matron of the Otaki Sanatorium for Consumptives, showed that fire patients had been admitted,- and threo discharged, and thero were at present tinder treatment, 14 male and 10. female patients. ■ Yesterday, June 17, was tho anniversary of tho opening of the Sanatorium. During the year, 40 patients had been treated, 23 discharged, and two died, of those discharged 14 Had since been ablo to resume 'work, the disease having been arrested, two had made slight improvement, while tho remaining sov-sn (in whom tho disease was in advanced stages on admission) had made no improvement under ' treatment. . Matters at tho Sanatorium wero_ progressing satisfactorily, and substantial improvements were' gradually being made to tho grounds. Lower Hutt Borough's Contribution.—ln "reply to a communication from tho Lower Hutt Borcush Council, asking for information as to tno Board's rocent assessment of local bodies' contributions for tho current year,. it being pointed out that while the Wellington City Corporation's contribution, had been reduced by something liko £2000, that of tho Hutt Borough had been materially increased, it was stated that tho explanation of this apparent discrepancy lay in tho fact that capital values in tho. Hutt had increased to £1,384,037 as against £913,268 for last year. 'Further, the estimates for tho current year had been reduced to £11,500, as against £13,550 for tho previous year. . Capital values' in tho Wellington City district wero assessed at £16,189,39-1, as against £15,475,559 last year, and whilo this represented an increase, the fact that the Board's estimates had. been 1 reduced by £2050, had resulted in.a consequent reduction, pro rata, in tho Wellington City Council's apportionment. _ Otaki Natives' Contributions.—lt was decided to mako inquiries as to tho probability of obtaining contributions, towards the Otalii Hospital and Sanatorium from tho wealthier Natives of tho district.
Tree-Planting.—Application is to bo mada to tlio Government Forestry .Department for advico concerning tlio carrying out of treeplanting at tlio Sanatorium. Hospital Engineer.—Mr. Bassott, ■ tho newly-appointed engineer to the Board, tittended tlio meeting, and conferred with tho Trustees regarding his duties. It Was reported that tho engineer's cottage was almost ready for occupation. On tlio motion of the Chairman, it was resolved that, in future, tho Board meet at 11 a.m., instead of 10.30 a.m., as has hitherto been tho rule.
