THE NEW DAIRY REGULATIONS.

' EXPEDITION URGED. From tho general, opinion expressed by well-informed dairy farmers (writes ourWairarapa correspondent), it will be a good tiling when the Government publishes tho new dairy regulations, and so gives the farmers a chanco to como into lino. At tho present time, dairymen who aro meditating improvements aro not sure as to tho manner in which they aro to work, and it is quite probablo that they may fix up some sort or new buildings which may bo condemned almost immediately by tho regalations themselves or by tho inspector. Some months ugo it was suggested that the proposed regulations should bo distributed broadcast among the farmers, setting out what was intended. The farmers would then have an opportunity of studying the regulations, and of carrying them out without v.'y coercivo act on tho part of the inspector. As it is now,, the farmers are asking for information which they cannot get unless from the inspectors themselves, .who must in a measnro be working in tho dark. The slack dairy season is now on, and thcro is nn doubt that full information on tho suhjojt of the regulations should bo in the hands of the farmers, so that operations under'the new conditions could .be commenced at the beginning of next season. Judged- by the. information obtainable so far from doiryfarmers whose places have been visiled by the inspectors, it appears that in future all, cowbails must have concreto floors. In the' Wnirarapa recently, the dairy inspector condemned a number of sound wooden floors, which had be'pn previously passed .by -stockinspectors. It is not contended that the dairy inspector waß wrong .ill requesting tho substitution of cement for wood floors, because it is recognised by all thinking farmers that this , system must prevail in time; but nevertheless many of the smaller dairy farmer^,will be unable to stand the" cost, if the alterations have to be made forthwith. It will be wise, however, for farmers meditating improvements to their cowbails, to communicate .with tho Agricultural Department before beginning roperations. a
