The Corinthic, from Capetown yesterday, brought SO oases of navel; oranges: .The aim of the shipper obviously'is to teat the, New Zealand market, with a view to future shipments.- • The' oranges.' arrived in firslrclass condition,and ' were, favourably commented on. The only diseases discovered were mealy bug and red scale, for which fumigation was prescribed. The Cape contains fruit fly, but none was .found in the* shipment!; Half the cases werb' carried' as ordinary and half in the cool stores. All arrived in good order. The shipment proceeds .' to Dunediu to-day.: • There is room in New Zealand for good oranges,.but it is doubtful if South Africa can supply them at 'a price 'to compete. Oranges are not a fruit that New Zcalanders are making much effort to grow.
