THE .WAIRAU SEAT. (by telegraph.—press association.) ' ■ Blenhalm, Juno 10. Tho Hon. C. H. Mills addressed his constituents to-night, and announced tjj.it he did not Jntond to re-offer himself for tho Wairau 'seat. Ho intended to take a trip Homo noxt year, and would'coittiriuo to reside in Wellington, but ho did not intimate' whother. ho ; intends to retire from politics altogether. Ho strongly urged that tho salaries of mombers of Parliament and Ministers wore inadequate, and advocated ■ that members should rcccivo £400 p'er year,. A3 in Australia. Ho said ho spoko from long experience, ns a member, and a'Cabinet Minister, aiid 'knew 1 that tho country was paying ita legislators too little. As lie was approaching tho end of his political carper ho had nothing.to gain himself, and spoko from entirely disintcrcskd. motives.
The only definitely announced oiuididato for Wairau seat so far is .Mr. Frank Shan - , an Independent Liberal.
