FIRST DAY'S RESULTS.' [isr TKLEOBiriI.—MESS ASSOCIATION.] Dunedin, Jnne 3. _ The Dunedin Jockey Club!s Winter Meeting opened to-day in splendid weather. Tho course was in excellent ordor, and tho attendance a recbrd for'a winter .meeting. F; E.. Jones intended to ride Sbimmor in the Trial Plato, but whilo waiting _ in the paddb.ck he was kicked'by Bay Lupin, his. cheek' being badly cut. He ivas unablo to- tako tlip mount, and L. G. King rode tho horse. The sum or £7855 was pnt through tho totalisator, as against £0164 for the first day last year. From a splendid start Kaikomako and Gold Dredge at onco bocame prominent. Shortly afterwards Ngawcrft stumbled, and unseated the rider. Turning into the straight Rosino came down, and Sarsficld fell over the top of her. Donovan, rider of Rosine, got a bad shaking, and the horses behind these had to be pulled clear, and had practically no chance of winning. In a good finish Gold Dredge won by a Bhort head, with Assault 'two 'lengths away, third. Time, lmin. ssec.
