DISTRICT NURSING CUILD.
'After mombers .of the Nursing Guild had finished on Tuesday evening, in accordance with the duiTerit' syllabus drawn up by Dr. Agnes Bennett, and others, the President (Mrs. S. A. Rhodes) intimated that the Committco of tho Guild ;and Sisters of St. John had" unanimously decided that Mrs. W. B. Fishbr (honorary secretary) should be tho recipient of a memento; to! mark the esteem in which she is so gonerally held." Producing a solid gold, curb-chain bracelet and padlock, Mrs. Rhodes'asked Mrs. Fisher to accept them with the best wishes of those' present, and eulogised, her efforts as. an ■ executive officer of tho guild, extending over several years. In returning thanks, Mrs. Fisher gave a brief resume of tho operations that parked the progress-of tho guild from its inception;to tho present time. Members had banded'.themselves together for the purpose of arranging' for certain medical instrucltoin regarding the care of the sick, sjnd also with tho view of nursing, .during illness, pcoplo in indigent... circumstances, who could hot afford to pay professional nurses.' But it was i found that tho demands mado for tho services of meifibers became so frequent that it was impossible, with tho limited time at their disposal, to undertake; tho charge of many, cases that could havo been dealt with under, a raoro comprehensive system. This dilemma was solved by Mrs. lihodat, their president, who became the pioneer of the district nursing scheme, and now the original efforts of the Sisters of St. John were supplemented by two professional nurses who regularly and systematically ministered to a largo number of tho sick poor.
