London, May 30. r_The Imperial Service Order has been amended so as to, admit women companions, .who will also ibe .entitled, to the medal for meritorious service., . ' . '' The - Imperial - -Service Order was instituted by King Edward VII in August, 1902, as a decoration for members of the Civil Service of the Eiripire, to. bo conferred after long arid meritorious' service. Only members of- the administrative or clerical branches' of the Civil 'Service are eligible as Corripanions, and their nnmber must not exceed 425; 250 for the Home Civil Servico, and 175 for. the Civil Services of the .Colonies and Protectorates. Appointments to the Ord6r. are made on the recbiiimeridation of it' Secretary - of ; State after U5. (or in- unhealthy Colonies 16) . years' ,'service, or for "eminently inefitdrious oervie'e," Companions, of the Order may add the letters' "1.5.0," -after their- names,- arid take ''precedence after Companions of , tho 1 .
