Some fat had boiled over on the kitchen fire, but the flames were extinguished before much damage was done, tho wallpaperf and ceiling only being scorched. The various games on the Basin' Reserve on Saturday afternoon's are greatly interfered'with owing to a lack of consideration shown by spectators who persist in standing on tho lino dividing the football and lacrosse fields. The turf is also being damaged considerably by the constant treading and shuffling of feet. Interviewed in Auckland oh the Pure Foods Act, Dr. Mason remarked that he was very glad, to say that the business men referred to expressed the greatest admiration for the Act, and indicated satisfaction at its having been passed. They were all willing to fall in with the new regulations, and preserve tho Act iij its entirety. It'was pointed out that there were riot a great many adulterated articles in the Dominion, and thesd had been manufactured to meet the public demand for cheapness arid quantity, irrespective of quality. Honest manufacturers had to enter into this, kind of competition or lose the trade, arid consequently they 'welcomed the Act.
