Duncdin, May-27. : An inquest .concerning .the doath of tho child Weir resulted in a verdict 'that death liad been, caused' by bums and shock. A subscription is being organised - for the relief of: the-family. : ALIGHTING FROM A MOVING. CjVR. : Christchurch, May 27. Charles-Batchelor, an-elderly man living 111 Forry Road, was received into the hospital late oil Friday night . suffering from severe injuries to his head. It appears that Batchelor attempted to alight from an electric car;whilo"it was travelling at a fast pace between stopping; placed. When lie stepped to the ground lie .pitched, over .violently, and was badly injured! He was picked up and aftor- ; wards attended, to, by Dr.- Clayton, -who or-' dered his removal to the hospital. He was insensible 'when, he ivas received '• into the ■institution, but this morning ho had recovered consciousness. ~' Bateholor died at tho Hospital , to-night. FELL, FROM SCAFFOLDING, Christchurch, May 27. James Howison, employed on the now buildings in course of erection for Malcolm and Co;, in Lichfield Street, fell from a scaffolding this morning) and sustained; injuries which necessitated his romoval to the ' lios-' pital. Howison fell from a'height of - about 14ft., and had : good' fortune in alighting on tho floor of the .building; instead of continuing hi 3 descent into a collar, which was only a few feet away from the spot. FOUND DEAD. Dur.odin,' May 27. _: George Deans, seventy years of age, residing' in, King Street, was found dead in his bedroom* fit two o'clock this -morning.. Deceased had been ailing for some time, but would not consult a. medical man. Oh ..going to bed last night ho complained of being unwell At',tho : hbur stated ..his' daughter heard a noise in thoroom, aiid on on tori ng it found her" father lying on tho .floor, dead. .
