At a banquet given at tho Trocadero. by Australasian merchants, Earl Carrington (President of tho Board, of Agriculture, and a former Governor of New South Wales) presided. In proposing " British and Australasian Trade," ho complimented Australia on the splendid show at Shepherd's Bush, which "was by far the ,best he had yet seen of Aus-. tralia's staple products, and about which tho King and Queen lmd : expressed their satisfaction in no measured terms. , Mr. Carruthers, replying, said it was undoubted that Australia in'the future would bo a great trading market for Britain. Ho referred to-tho--'growth of the' butter and meat industries, thanks to tho great shipping companies. Britain ought to copy Germany in subsidising trado., ,If sho did so, a great extension of British and Australian trade would follow. |
