Auckland, May .25., The . now Judgeship of the-Native Land Court has been conferred on : Mr. Eliott Roscoe Rcove, solicitor, of Auckland. Mr. Reeve is a New Zealander by: birth, and is. about forty years of age. He was educated at the Auckland Grammar School, and. was called to the Bar in 1897, since which data ho has* been practising in Auckland. BAD WEATHER ON THE WEST COAST, Auckland, May 25. .Tho weather, which has been fine , for the , . past fortnight, broke yesterday,. rain falling throughout the day and night.-On the West Coast a strong gale was blowing, with heavy . seas, and tlfe shipping was considerably do-' . layed. ~Tho s.s. Penguin, from' New Ply- ■ mouth, arrived off tho bar in tho morning,but was vjnable to get in until late in' the day, and 'did not berth until lato in the afternoon. The 1 s.s. Rimu, from* Wanganui' and Now Plymouth, with a load of cattle on board, encountered the full force "of he gale, ' and was badly knocked about, the : trip from . New Plymouth taking 24' hours.
