The following deputation from the Now Zealand Ironmasters' Association waited on Sir James Mills, managing director of the Union Steam Ship Company, yesterday, in regard to, the. prices'charged for the supply of labour to the company Messrs/ Cook (Port Chalmers), D. Robertson, AV. Cablo, C. M. Luke, J. P. Luke, C. M'Keegan, and H. F. Allen (secretary). The' deputation asked for- an increase in the rates charged for, the supply of labour, on tho ground that contracts are at present based on prices fixed twenty years ago, although the price of labour has considerably increased in tho meantime. Sir James Mills promised that the deputation's representations should bo carefully considered. • , It is understood that Captain- T. W. M'Donald and Messrs. J. G. W. Aitken, M.P., and A. 11. Vile, tho retiring membors of tho Wellington Education Board, intend offering themselves for re-election. So far no other candidates have been announced. Mr. C. W. Palmer, Secretary of the Wellington branch of tho Navy .League; informs us that tho decoration of the Queen's Statuo for Empiro Day was mainly done by tho ladies of the Navy Leaguo, but .some asuistanco was given by the Viotoria Leaguo, ' *•
