BALLOON AND AEROPLANE. BY TELEQRAril —ritESS ASSOCIATION—;COFYRIGin l._ London, May i' 2. Messrs. Kellow and A. J. Staughton, ]\Telbourneites, ascended to a height of 4800 feet in the Hon. C. S. Rolls' balloon, travelling from Battcrsoa. to the shore of the North Sea at 40 miles an hour. Mr. Kellow also Paris on Mr. Farman's aeroplane. ' A BARON'S STRENUOUS SON. _ Tho Hon. Chas. S. Rolls, M.A., son of Baron Llanmttock (who owns GOCO odd acres in Moninonthsire) is one of those 'leisured 'young men who have chosen a useful hobby—aeronautics, as well as motoring and engineering (in which 'latfcar he graduated at Cambridge). .Ho holds a third engineer's (irtarina) certificate, and ; is a' certificated .aeronaut. Three balloons are owned by .him, and ho has made over a hundred balloon ascents. In 190G lib won the French Aero Club's medal for the longest balloon journey during that year, from Paris to Shernbourno, Norfolk. Tho Hon. C. S.- Rolls is equally well-known in auto-mobilism, which ho pionoored in England in :W6, being then 19 years old. Ho drove a motorcar provious to ■tho abolition of the "red flag" regulation; sinca when 110 has soveial times established world's records for Spoed. Inter alia, lie was awarded tho gold medal for his performance in the 1000 miles trial of 1900; represented Groat Britain in the Gordon Bennett race, 1005, as well as competing in other international motorraces; and in 1900 broko tho Monte CarloLondon record. A footballer, a cyclist, a man of action 011 earth and in air, the Hon. C. S. Rolls has crowded a large measure of performances into tho thirty summers of his osisteuco. • :
