TENDER LEGS OF MUTTON.
At the Farmers' • Union dinner at Palmerston North, Mr. E. H. Crabbe, of Kimbolton, gave an interesting history of thrf trials of the' pioneer settlers in the llan'gitikei district. At that time politics were out of the question; all that th'o settlers cared 1 , about was; whether their representative was prepared to give them a road. , On one occasion a road , to. a settler's camp was blocked, and the supply of provisions cut off. A butcher with plenty of vitality climbed up a steep ridgo and rolled the leg's of mutton down to tho men in the valley below/ They declared that they had never' tasted mutton so tender before. •
