: IMPORTANT RESOLUTIONS, The Palmerston branch of the Farmers' Union met on Saturday: ' . Captain Hewitt .referred toj'the .motion passed at' the last' meeting expressing- the opinion that the proposed rule allowing farm labourers to join' the..-Union vshould be deleted.- He stated ho was entirely in favour of, admitting . membors who- were farm labourers, .and read' a-.-letter bearing .on the matter that haU been published. < He intended, as a dolegato at-' tho. Provincial Con- , f ercnee,- to speak in - favour ■of retaining the rule. • Concerning the demands of the Wairarapa Droyors' Tlnion, Captain- Hewitt moved tho following' as a remit .to the', conference :— "That the. attention of the Provincial Conference, be to the' ; .demands .of the Wairarapa DroVers' and Shepherds'; Union with a view to' definite action being-taken by the Union if necessary." . This was car-ried.-V; On tho motion of Mr. A. Buchanan, it was -resolved ''that the time has arrived when-Native lands should be, subject to tho same., rates .-'and conditions v, : as European landsj' and. the- Government,:be. asked to legislate -in :this direction." v , The following were also'passed as-roraits: "That the Conference again requests the Colonial Conference, to. urge on, the Government that it is only .fair, when permanent Government reserves adjoin private holdings (freehold, or leasehold), that the Lands Department should pay half the cost of. 'fencing : and keeping rfences in repair, and x destroying noxious 'weeds"; "that the names of vendors and- buyers of stock/ be given when stock is-,sold at public auction." ' Compensation, for diseased stock and the question" of. agricultural machinery- in the tariff were discussed, but no remit was decided upon. .
