(FBOM OUR EFECIAn COnnESFONDENM A PALMERSTON. On Thursday night Detective Quirke arrested a man named Edward Myers in tho Commercial Hotol. Ho was brought beforo the Court yesterday morning and charged with being a rogue and a vagabond. A remand was asked for by Sergeant Stagpool to onablo tho police to tako accused's finger print. The remand was granted and accused was given bail, himself £100, and two sureties of £50 each. , A horticultural society is to be formed in Palmerston. A sum of £500 has been raised to date in aid of tho proposed new Technical School. A valuable site has been purchased, and it is expected that two or three months will see the foundation stone laid.

Mr. T. P. Firman of Carterton, is at,present' laid up in a private hospital in Welling-ton,-writes our Wairarapa_ correspondent, as a result of a strain, sustained when lifting, which intensified an old ailment and necessitated an operation. The operation has been successfully performed, and Mr. Firman expects to leave the institution in about a fortnight's time. .
