INDUSTRIAL DISPUTE.

AGREEMENT FILED. . An industrial agreement between the Whakatu Sausage Casing-makers Union of Workers and Messrs. S. Oppcnheimer and Company was filed with the Clerk of Awards (Mr. Sttibbs) yesterday. The agreement, which will remain in force until June 30, 1909, provides for thrco classes of labour: (a) classers, scrapcrs, measurers, and tank-hands: (b) salters; and (c) boys. The hours of labour are fixed as follow:—• From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on six days in the week; and that on Saturdays immediately following pay days work may cease at 4 p.m., but in the caso of raw material being oxpected at least two hands must remain behind to take delivery, Following are the wages agreed to :-7-Classers, scrapers, mea- ' surors, and tank-hand's, Is. 2d. per hour; salters, lid. por hour; boys under 16, for week of forty-eight hours, 205.; at 16, ss. oxtra for. each year until the age of 20 has • been attained, when the wage provided for workers must thonceforth be. paid. Overtime rates shall be:—Ordinary days Is. 6d. per hour; Sundays, and holidays doublo time (including in case of holidays tho ordinary wages). Among other provisions is one providing that the proportion of boys to workers should not exceed; one to four, and that preference should Ibe granted to Unionists.
