OPERA HOUSE. "THE EARL AND THE GIRL." Tho cheerless weather last night did not interfere with tho attendance at the Opera House, whore tho well-known and highly entertaining musical comedy, " The Earl mid tho Girl," was successfully repeated. Mr. Sheridan provoked almost continuous merriment, and his efforts wore ably seconded. by the other members of the company. " The Earl jand tho Girl" will be produced again this evening and to-morrow evening, and oil Saturday, tho concluding night of the season, it will be replaced by "Fun on the Bristol." Mr. Sheridan .will appear once more as the " Widow O'Brien," whose eccentricities and comic malapropisms hnvo delighted playgoers in every part of the world for years past. The variety programme introduced in tho course of. the comedy will include all the membors of the Pantomime Company. . THEATRE ROYAL. A large audience assembled at the Tlieatro Royal last night; when a thoroughly enjoyable programme was presented. Carl Brasso, the strong man, was loudly applauded for .his feats of strength and balancing. Of the other newartists, the London Pierrots,-who contributed a number of banjo and piano,duets, were given probably the most cordial reception. .The vocalists, especially Harry Edwards, Were also very successful. The programme will be repeated this evening. GEACH'S DRAMATIC COMPANY. On Monday evening next, Mr. Edwin Geach's Popular Dramatic Company will mako a brief return visit to Wellington, producing for the first time here Mr. Lingford Carson's new drama, "The Heart of a Hero," which, although it has reached its 500 th performance in London, is quite new to Dominion theatregoers. Reports speak very favourably of the production, which the management states will be one of the best performances given in this city. Mr. Geach's .Company is reported to be having a highly successful season in Christchurch, which terminates this week. Popular prices are announced, and seats may be reserved at Holiday's without extra charge. MISSIONS TO SEAMEN. Despite the wet weather, there was a crowded audience at the. Missions to Seamen Institute last night, when a concert was provided by Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Nathan. Tho missioner, Mr. James Moore, presided, and during a short interval delivered an address in relation to the temperance question. "Customs" was taken as a subject for the address, which resulted, in eight men taking the pledge of total abstinence. A most amusing conundrum compefitioii was held, and won by sailors from ships in port. The following contributed items to tho programme:—Misses Lucas, Nathan, Joseph, Gardner, Miles, Messrs. Loughnan and Davey. Miss Lucas presided at the piano. Several gramaphone selections were also contributed, and tne audience, led by the missioner, sang some very popular choruses in good stylo. Tho performers were accorded a. hearty vote of thanks, and refreshments were dispensed at tho close of the concert.' ' * The Rev. A. If. Osborne, M.A., of Victoria, who has been occupying the pulpit rit St. John's Presbyterian Church for.sovoral weeks, will lecture on " Shakespeare—Man and Poet," in" the Schoolroom, Dixon Street, to-night. Tho subject is one of perennial interest, and the lecture will'be made specially attractive by illustrative songs and limoliglit pictures. Tho Newtown Brass Band will give a performance in the Town Hall to-night, under the conduotorsliip of Bandmaster barker.
