THE AMERICAN FLEET.
A ROTORUA TRIP. > (BY TELEGRAPH—PnESH ASSOCIATION.) , Auoklandi April 26. The Hon. Dr. Findlay t Attorney-General, expressed tho opinion to a " Herald reporter that Rotor'ua, from which place he has just como, ought to bo mado olio of the features in eormection with tho forthcoming visit of the American fleet to Auckland.' 1 "Speaking selfishly,", tho Minister remarked, "one can scarcely conceive a better advertising medium than • to impress tho officers and men.of tho fleet with tli'o wonders of our thermal region. America is vory much nearer than England, and the stream of visitors from tho United States should increase faster if this country is prOpetly advertised. Though we liavo doiio a good ideal towards advertising the Dominion, anyone visiting England can see how enormously nioto cfFcctively advertised Canada ■ is, not merely by the newspapers, but' by direct advertising in them and oii tile railways. Probably, too, the visit of tho ollicers of tho United States flfiet to ltotorua might bo made tho occasion of inviting prominent Australians that would give further distinction to tho event." Dr. Findlny said that no doubt his suggestion camo partly within the functions of tho Auckland committee, but lie would represent his viows to Cabinet. Ho added that, as far, as ho could ascertain, nearly all tho northern members favoured tho proposal that both Houses of Parliament should adjourn in order to tako part in the reception of tho fleet. On tho other baud, several southern mombors wero opposed to tho idea.
