A VISIT TO LEPROSY PATIENTS.
—-—» — : (BY TELEGRAPH.—SPECIAL' CORRESPONDENT.) Chrlstohurch, April 18. The Hon; G. Fowlds went to' Lyttelton yesterday afternoon, and in his capacity of Minister of Public Heal 111. paid a visit to tho two leprosy patients, a European and a Maori, who are isolated on the Island. Each has a Woll sheltered and well built singloroom cottage, well furnished, and supplied with all conveniences. The Minister conversed with the moil, who appeared satisfied that everything possible had ! becn done for them. The European did not appear to bo making any improvement, but tho Maori seemed decidedly better, and was choorful and hopoful. He remarked that he was all right, but wished he could got away -from there, alid, as the party left the Island, lie was seen vigorously waving his hat and handkerchief in a farowell salutation. Olio of the most prized possessions of tho men is "o phonograph, which often beguiles a weary hour, and they will bo very grateful if their stock of "records,"- with which they have becomo Bomcwhat familiar, is augmented.
