» — : HEROIC EXPLOITS OF NEW CANON . OF BANGOR. Tho, Bishop of Bangor has appointed tho Rev. . Owen Lloyd Williams, rector of Llanrhyddlad, Anglesey, to the Canonry and Chancellorship of Bangor Cathedral, vacant by the death of the late Chancellor Richards, rector of Abertrraw, Anglesey. ' Mr..'Williams graduated at Jesus College, Oxford, in 1851, and was ordained in 1852. Ho is the son oi; a former chancellor of tho cathedral, who was rector of Llanfairynghornwy,l a parish on a dangerous part ,of tho Anglesey coast, where his mother started the first lifeboat in- North Wales. . Mr. Williams's ministrations having been always in parishes by tho seaside, ho,has, in addition to his pastoral work, always com-, mandod tho local lifeboat, until compolled to retiro by old age. In 1854, for example, lio wont out on a pitch-dark night in a galo .of wind on tho coast of Anglesey and saved twenty-four lives. Again, ho went out in' December 1862, on tho Carnarvonshire coast, and brought homo twenty-four men. , In 1870, on a dark night in a heavy sea, he rescued tho erew of tho Kenilworth, for which ho received tho silver medal of the Lifeboat Institution. Again he; was out for twenty-four hours standing by tho Dusty Miller, till a tug camo and dragged her off St. Patrick's Causeway. For this he received a second service clasp and a pair 'of silver-mounted binocujars. ' '
