-Chrlstchurch, March 25.: ; A conferonco'between Dr. Valintine, In-spector-General of "Hospitals, and the Christcnurcli (losp!Vl Board, took placo to-night. It was, pointed out to Dr. Vn.lintino that tho . principal objections of tho Board to tho Hospital ,antl ..Chnritnble'. Aid Hill were, those relating to Government, control over tho ,ip-' pointmonts, of matron and house surgeon,-,tho election..,of a sub-committee by tho ratepayers of 'tho district instead of by Boards,: and the restrictions of the powers of the Board to accept a tonder for, any work over. £10, ; Dr. Valintine said-ho Would'bring tho objection regarding the appointment of subcommittees under tho favourable notice' ot tho Minister. Ho defended tho provision placing tho appointment-of house surgeon and matron in tho hands of the Government, bccntiso he thought that tho Government should, have-more control, aa they contributed £1' for £1 by subsidies. The Chief Inspector and his Assistant would have better moans of becoming acquainted witli tho qualifications of the matron and liouso surgeon. Ho said tho Boards mainly appointed houso surgeons oil testimonials, which was not a. satisfactory way of doing it.
