It must not bo forgotten that on Wednesday next, at 3 p.m., there-is to bo a saJe of work at tho residence of Mrs. Harold ijeauchamp,;4 Fitzhcrbcrt Terrace, in aid of the funds of St. Mary's Guild. A numbe.r of desirable articles will bo on sale, a girls orchestra will play, and the shilling charged for admission will cover also the cost of afternoon tea. . St. Mary's Guild does excellent work, arid it is to-be hoped that this attempt to augment its funds will meet with hearty support.
. Among the passengers from Sydney by the long-delayed. Maitai' was a" young English singer, Miss Alice Clifton,: who, with her aunt, Mrs. Wardi'op,' is travelling for the sake ofher. health., 'Miss Clifton is very young, and her. musical career is only just beginning, * but slid 'has . already given in London ;and'the 'provinces several concerts which have been very.favourably reported by the leading papers.' : These, sneak'' of her beautiful contralto voice,.; its : flexibility and sympathy, : and her artistic; rendering of songs in'several languages. Miss Clifton was engaged' to sing at the Ballad Concerts in St. James's Hall this, winter, but, owing to. illness, she had to give that up and take a.., long sea voyage instead.. ; Miss. Clifton, and :hcr aunt are only spending a few days in tho Dominion, during which they are going'as far as Invercargill, but' they hope to return for ■ , a longer, visit soon.' 7 Sirs. C. Colebrook, who left with her husband and family last week to reside in Auckland, lia'd for some time'-been associated .with.
