TENUI NOTES.
Thero is c a , very weird piece i of scenery close -.to Tenui known as "Maunsoll's Taipos " (writes-our travelling correspondent).. -It is an immense sandstone, ridgo, and it forms a feature in ' the landscape which can be seen for many miles. On asking Mr. Maunsell if indications of coal had been found, on account of-the sandstone'formation, he said that several had been noted, and that quite recently one of the shepherds had. brought in a quantity which he. had taken out of a creek. Mr. Maunsell, also said that some years ago the late Sir James Hector told him that coal would be found, but at a considerable depth. Tenui seems to be admirably adapted for fruit; growing. Apples and pears do remarkably well. I saw some orchards in ' which tho trees were ' almost breaking- down. This- was the case particularly at Annedalel Plums have also boon an excellent crop. At one' farm the ground was strewn' with plums, and it was said to be too far away; to send to- a market. 1 - ,
