Oil Thursday, a telegram was received from Auckland, stating that a visitor, to that' city reported that the boiling cauldron at Mount Tongariro was in violent eruption, And that he saw a column ;pf steam sovcral thousand feet in height issuing from the crater. Dr. Cpckayne, the botanist, who lias been making a-survey of the Toiigariro National Park; and wlio arrived' in last night," gives tho report a flat' donial.. On Friday of last week, Air. Phillip Tiirner, two men, and Dr. Cockayne traversed '.tho, range from' 0110 end to the other,' the entire length of Tongariro, and actually bathed in tho .hot spring reported to be in eruption.
