NAPIER CARNIVAL.
SAILING RACE. BY CORRESPONDENT. . u March'l9. A Halt was called in tho carnival proceedings to-day on account of steady rain, which foil all morning. -Tho weather, improved in tho afternoon, but it was- cold and "bloat - and rain again fell at night. It was announced by tho Carnival Committeo in tho morning that all sports were off until next day, but the sailing race for patikis was 'Muled, and resulted in a win for Marondah (limn. handicap), Edith (Gmin.) being second, and Tuna (lOniin. 30sec.) third. Tho. wind was from south to south-west, very light and patchy. The' Wellington boat Tuna was the smallest craft in the race. ' She stood well For the first three miles, and led for a time, but then dropped behind and finished last, but took third prize on time allowance. The Meteor (scratch) had a substantial lead "•lion her throat halyards nwried away.
