SWIMMING
Swimming> is a sport which is not. -subject to- the vagaries, of. the clerk of the weather. At least, so it would appear from - the fact .that, "same events were decided at To Aro ; Baths, .under the adverse , conditions of yesterday evening. The water was comparatively smooth, but there was a cutting wind blowing, : and ' .rain 'descended continuously. -Three plucky, girls started in the 100 yards event of the' Schoolgirls' Championship. Miss E. Chappie swam very, well, and. was well in the •lead at the finish, while Miss O. Arthur beat Miss B. Burr for second placo by a narrow margin. ; The time .was lmin.. SOscc. 'Miss Chappie has gained the Schoolgirls' Championship with 1G points, having come iirst in all • four events. The second is Miss '0. Arthur with G points, and third, Miss 13. Burr with 5. . • :
' The Swifts Club sealed handicap dive was won by; C...Moore (scr.),-. 51 points; second, E. S. I'orne (15), 50 pointr; third, G. P. Hanna ,(scr.),\ '19 points. 11. E. Jenkinson and 11. Elliot also competed. Owing to tho entrants failing to turn up, tho Swifts Club 50 yards boys' handicap was postponed till Monday. Tho mile handicap will be held on Saturday afternoon, instead-of during the week, as pre-viously-intended.
