THE LOAN PROPOSALS. v The meeting of ratepayers in connection with ' :o Petone loan proposals. was held last night; ' o Major (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) presiding.over an attendance of between 50 and-GO; • :
Mr. M'Ewan said it was proposed to borrow for, the following purposes Clock for 'the Municipal Buildings, i.£GOO; wharf, =£1000; diversion of Percy's stream, ,£800; purchaee of th'ei-recreation., ground, .£1100; ; recreation ground improvement scheme, •. «£2500;\ eastern drainage scheme, <66514. .The estimated 'cost of. the latter work was'<£B29G; of which amount the .Government was-providing'Jßlooo, and private landowners" .£1282. The ': works, Mr. M'Ewan stated," were absolutely .necessary if they wen; to keep pace with the progress of the vdistrict. ; The loan proposals' totalled £15,550, and the annual charges would not exceed a farthing •in .tho .JS on the Unimproved Talne. . ; ' After some- discussion all the .motions were carried. - •' ;'
