ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS. : ' The celebrations in . connection with the thirty-fourth anniversary, of the- Star of Wellington. Lodge, 1.0. G.T.- took the form of: a,'concert; whiclv was held 'in : the New Century Hall,, Kent Terrace, last' night. : : I'hQ Chairman, Mr. J. G: W. Aitken' M.P. ,in tlie courso of' a few, introductory remarks, 'congratulated' the lodge on its large . membership and, strong financial position:. He then.impressed upon those present the: immense amount' of. evil which was wrought by tho drink traffic. ' Meetings of the kind which they wore holding that night were just. what 1 was. wanted—a strong counter-attraction.to various harmful gatherings held, in :. the city. Every- man and woman'on the -sido .of temperance should not loso an/opportunity of advancing .proofs of the -benefit of total abstinence. " Get ready, one and all, for the fight," observed Mr. Aitken, in conclusion, amidst applause, ''and we ,shall, undoubtedly: .conquer the jiquor traffic before' very long." : ; The following contributed items ■ during the, evening :--Miss Hare (piano), Messrs! 6.
