FIRES.
HOUSE DESTROYED. AT ELTHAM. : (dy telegraph.—press association.) Eltham, February 27, A fire occurred on DalzieL Road, • a little out of town, at oho o'clock, this morning, whereby a six-roomed house belonging to S. Coleman was destroyed. The flames started in tho lining for a hot-water service, and the inmates had to make their escape, saving little. The coachhouse also went. Tho liouso was insured for £500 in the Farmers' Mutual, and the furniture for £150. ; OUTBREAK AT GISBORNE. Cisborne, February 27. Last night tho premises occupied by Teat and Friar, general storekeepers, nild J. G. Cox, dentist, were totally destroyed by fire. A good pressure of water was; available, and tho fire was stopped from spreading. There was no wind. A small amount of goods was salvaged. The fire had a good hold when tho alarm was given. . Tho insurances were: —Teat and Friar, £300 on building and £1000 on the stock in Norwich Union; Mr. E. D. Smith estimates his damage at £150, covered in the New Zealand office. Mr. J. G. Cox was not insured, and his loss amounted to £150. C. Morris (Molbourno Cash Store) also suffered loss, and was uninsured. The estimated loss by water and removal is £2000. A brick wall finished two days • previously helped to savo the adjoining shops. DRAPER'S SHOP GUTTED. (BY XELEQRAPn —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, February 27. This afternoon , a firo occurred at the premises of J. Powell, draper, in Karaiigaliapo Road, the building being practically gutted. The building was owned by Peat Brothers, who had it insured in'tho Royal Exchange for £600. Mr. Powell had a policy over tho contents of the shot) for £1000 in the Stato Fire Offica.
