A meeting of the Hutt Park Committee was I held- in . the Mayor's Room, Petono : Council,; j'on Wednesday evening, " Those present were :—' Councillors Russel (presiding), Baldwin, • and Hodgins (Hutt), the Mayors of Potone (Mr.' J..i VV7 M'Ewaii), Eastboumo " (Mr. Bolton), Councillors Nicholson, and ■ Southgnte (Petone). ..-After formal business, the' Chairman reported that ho had interviewed tho late trustees of the. Park, and that they had produced a balance-sheet showing a debit balance of .£l4, which' the present committee was not prepared to take up. During the evening tlio Golf Club delegates attended and showed a lease drawn up by the lato trustees, vesting a great deal of power and control in the golf club. Several present expressed themselves very strongly as to the legality of such-.:a lease. The appointing of a- caretaker was arranged for, the golf club being willing to pay halt his' salary. The racing club's lease has 18 months to run, but tho committee had tho power to terminate tho lcaso by giving six months' notice. This had run out, and tho present coinmitteo was not willing to re-lease to the club unless it put tho fences and buildings in satisfactory repair. The action of the Chairman in insuring the buildings for ,£I2OO was approved. Mr. P. Purser.
