The nett' profit for that year amounted to £3634 ss. 2d., and tho gross output of coal for tho year was 83,667 tons. In this connection.it may bo pointed out, that the gasworks of; Zealand consume annually over 200,000 tons of coal, and the consumption is rapidly increasing. For gas making purposes there is at present existent a special and certain market for double the present output of Brunner coal, and for'all other purposes that good coal is required, Brunner. well holds it 3 own in tho front rank of cdmpbtitorsj. Tho FIRE-CLAY, underlying the Brunner coal is admirably adapted for the manufacture.of every class of fire-brick and fire-clay goods. At present tho consumption •within New Zealand. i 3 considerable, and an annual profit of £1000 can :be obtained without difficulty. ;With special, methods and plant for the manufacture of gasworks retorts,'the profit, could bo materially increased. :In tho event, of. iron being produced within the Dominion, Brunner fire-clay goods would be in considerable demand.'
