HOSPITAL FINANCE.

. A YEAR'S ESTIMATES; It is estimated that the cost of hospital administration in'the Wellington district for tho year 1908-9 will.be £23,000. This is less by £4100 than last year's expenditure, which amounted to £27,100. The Wellington Hospital Trustees aro asking the Board for '£17,600 for the maintenance and improvement of the Hospital nt Newtown, this sum being £1000 less than last year's 1 appropriation. . The estimates' adopted by the Trustees show the following itoms under the head of receipts:—Rents, £2700; contributions, £550; in-patients, £2500; out-patients, £324 j Government subsidy, £600; District Board, £17,500; balance, in hand, £1000; total,. £25,174. The estimated expenditure of £25,174 is chiefly made up of supplies, but' inoludos also Additions, £1550; workshop extension, £1000; salaries, £5700; rofund of loan, £1500.

Tho two institutions under tho direct control of tho District Hospital Board aro expected to absorb £3200 during tho coming year. Out of this Bum £1050 i3to go to tho Otaki Hospital, being £1000 for maintenance, and £50 for additions, while tho £2150 apportioned to tho Otaki Sanatorium includos £1650 for maintenance, and £500 for repairs. Tho sum of £400 is to bo spent in ercoting n cottage for tho engineer at Otaki, and £300 is to bo allowed for general administration and contingencies. Tho final item, "liabilities over assets £1600," brings tho grand total up to £23,000. Half this sum will bo payable by tho local authorities within the' Wellington Hospital District, and half by tho Government. • Tho estimates will como beforo tho District Hospital Board for adoption at a statutory meeting to bo held on Wednesday next, when the apportionment on the various local bodies will also be made.
