SHIPBUILDERS AND ENGINEERS.
MR. LLOYD-CEORCE,
SLIGHTLY IMPROVED SITUATION Q Y TELEGRAM —PRESS ASSOCIATION—COP YMCIIT. (Rec. Feb. 23, 4.16 p.m.) London, February 22. Tho efforts of tho President of the Board of Trade (Mr. Lloyd-Georgo) to settle the engineers' striko are progressing. It transpires that tho shipbuilding employers have decided that, owing to distress arising out of depression of trade, they will continue to employ, as circumstances permit, men of trades in which there is no dispute. Hence tho lockout notices that were issued to thoso who accepted a modified reduction havo been withdrawn. Tho employers, however, insist upon tho shipwrights, who are on strike, accepting tho Clyde rate. Tho strikers reply that this is equivalent to a reduction of 3s. per week. They are determined hot to resume work.
