WELLINGTON PONY AND GALLOWAY RACING CLUB.
Miramar ,or at least the new racecourse, presents a scene of activity between 5.301 and 8 o'clock in the morning.. Yesterday morning a number of ponies were at work on the new track in preparation for Saturday's mooting. Everything is now.said to be in good order, and a good attendance is anticipated. During tho last few daja a nuirtber of ponies' have arrived from the country, districts, and are now housed in tho Club's new boxes adjoining. tile racecourse.. .Lady Mason "was the first pony to appear yesterdays-morning, and negotiated four, furlongs 'attractively' in ■55sec.' The Auckland pony Inspiration,-who is now owned in Brooklyn, Was" sent over, tho same distance, and completed • tho jour-; ney, in. 54 l-ssec., but pulled ,up laine, apparently having struck herself/ It.-is hoped that her new owner will not thus early be deprived of her services. Napoleon and Dan O'Connell were only allotted'light'tasks, but both look- fit.. Kau Kau irtipresscd the critics as a fine, free mover, but is very green. Others out included Lady Vogel, Cornstalk, Nellie, Rosena, Insanity, Cleveland,' Ruby, Bumper, etc. The secretary.'of .the Club advises us 'that a ferry steamer will leave' the ferry wharf - for Miramar^; (a .• few' minutes' walk from the course) at 1.20 p.m. on Saturday,- arriving in -time ;for. the first .race; aiid • returning aftor the last race, - while a special service of trams will-run from Court-' enay Placo" from 11.30 onwards.
